10 Bible Verses for Confidence

Where does confidence come from and how do I find confidence in Jesus?

Confidence is a learned experience. It’s lovely when you have it, but boy is it hard to muster sometimes. The experience of having low self-esteem or self-worth can impact your ability to be confident in yourself. If you struggle to learn how to stop comparing yourself to other women, read this blog post about how to defeat comparison the Jesus way. If worry is your problem, read this blog entry on how to stop worrying and take your thoughts captive. Whatever your problem is, you may be one of many women who desire to be confident in the Lord.

I believe very strongly in repeating Scripture over yourself to combat the lies of the enemy and get us through hard circumstances, so here are 10 Bible verses to help you gain true confidence which comes from the Lord:

  1. “I will fight for you; you need only be still”

    -Exodus 14:14

The Lord is clear many times that we don’t need to worry about what is before us. He already has the victory, and He wants us to know that means today, tomorrow, and yesterday. Who can stand against Him? He is the Victor and He will fight your battles. So drop the worry, and pick up His confidence.

  2. “You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpant”

    -Psalms 91:13

Psalms 91 in general is where you want to be if you’re looking for God to give you some confidence. What better way to feel safe than a meditation on this entire chapter. We’ll unpack Psalms 91 (one of my favorites) in a blog post soon. What you need to know for now is that through the Holy Spirit living inside of you, there is nothing to fear.

  3. “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him.

    -Psalms 62:1

I’m a big fan of both speaking Jesus over yourself and speaking Scripture over yourself. When I am in a deep time of distress and the urgency of peace is acute, I like to repeat the same verse over and over until I am comforted by God’s Word. This verse goes deeper than just having peace. On a soul level, we are meant to have true rest in our Lord. What more is there to worry about when you know your salvation is secured and you can fully rest.

  4. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

    -Ephesians 2:10

This is a powerful one. Let the fact that you are God’s creation wash over you, and not just that, but that He views you as His beloved. He designed you with purpose and He desires for you to walk into His purpose for you. He is calling you towards not just Him, but once you’re there… what He has already set before you to give Him glory. His design for you is sufficient. I know you know He has good plans for you, but would you believe He created you perfectly for those plans? He will equip you and the chances are, for what you are facing, He already has equipped you.

  5. “Since we have such hope, we are very bold.”

    -2 Corinthians 3:12

This verse goes on to talk about hardened minds that do not have Christ in their hearts. What confidence is all about can narrow down to who you have living inside of you - the Holy Spirit. Later in the chapter is the famous verse “where the Spirit of the Lord, is there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17). Then it says that we “behold the glory of the Lord!” in verse 18. That is pretty awe-striking to see how, “with God, all things are possible” Matthew 19:26 comes to life. We have hope because of Jesus and He desires to give you the strength you need to be BOLD.

  6. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

    -1 Peter 2:9

If you struggle to focus on the accomplishments in your life, here is one for you: You are chosen. Sure, you may not have done that on your own, and instead it was by the grace of our God that got you here to worship Him and call yourself a Christian… but does it spark something deep in your soul to know that God chose you. We don’t know why, we don’t understand it all, but you walk around with the God of Ages behind you.

  7. “That according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being”

    -Ephesians 3:16

Okay, let me let you in on a secret, Ephesians is the best. Truly nothing makes me feel more adopted and trusted by God to do His will than reading through Ephesians on a deep dive. Start with Ephesians 3:14-21 for a glimpse of the power of this book of the Bible. This passage of the Bible will help you learn confidence, give you courage, and give you the boldness to walk on today and tomorrow and the next day.

  8. “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

    -John 8:12

That’s what we’re all looking for, right? The light of life. If you’ve been walking with Jesus a while, you know that we are supposed to be beacons of light. That light has already been placed inside of you. Jesus promises us here that if you follow Him, you will have the light. Let His light be the confidence just radiating inside of you, begging to be shared!

  9. “So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”

    -Galatians 4:7

You are no longer a slave to sin. You are freed. You an inheritance ahead of you because God deems you worthy. Listen to the song, “Slave to Nothing” by Zach Williams if you need more encouragement on what is your past versus what is your present. Presently, God calls you His. Walk like it!

  10. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

    -Jeremiah 1:5

Did you know the next words out of Jeremiah’s mouth at this call to action from God was self-doubt? Us humans have a natural inclination to criticize ourselves (or moreover, believe the enemy’s traps that we are not good enough). The Lord responds that He is with Jeremiah and He will rescue him. As He often does, Jesus puts the words Jeremiah needs into his mouth when Jeremiah is worried about what to say. Trust that God will arm you with the words. Trust that God has known you before He created you. God has called you to Him. He has designed you to be victorious. It is yours for the taking!

I hope this list helped you to feel confident about who you are. It helps me to know God has a purpose. Spend some time discovering what is God’s calling on your life. Let His voice wash over you, seek Him, and He will reveal Himself.

Love always and bless you dearly!
